A home insurance provider has stated that there has been a decline in home insurance claims lately.
The provider says that this decline is not attributed to the recession, unlike many people think .Instead, the decline has occurred as a result of underinsured customers.
Figures from the home insurance company have shown that there has been a decline of close to 13 percent in theft claims. These figures have been noted for the second quarter for this year and the decline has been noted in comparison with the same period last year.
The official figure for domestic burglaries in the UK increased, according to police figures. 2.8 percent is the official statistic for the rise in the number of property thefts.
The home insurance provider said that the difference in the figures is because of underinsured households.
Many households have underinsured themselves despite the average claim for theft reaching up to £ 1370 in UK homes.
The manager for the cover provider also expressed his opinions saying that a rise in thefts is not alarming during a recession. However, what is alarming he noted, was a decline in the number of theft related claims.
