Home insurance providers may withdraw flood coverage - 23/04/2008
|
Homeowners who are victims of flooding may not be covered indefinitely by home insurance, according to industry experts.
A number of insurers have revealed that the statement of principles agreement within policies may not necessarily be guaranteed.
The agreement provides flood coverage to consumers under the assumption that the government is adequately financing flood defences.
James Harrison, chief executive of Insurancewide.com, said: "The statement of principles is not set in stone so therefore anyone who thinks they might be at risk should consider their position sooner rather than later."
The insurers remind customers that those who currently have policies are likely to be protected as long as the policy continues.
Insurancewide.com point out that consumers may face difficulties when searching for a new insurance provider.
Advice is to check where homes lie on the flood map and consult different providers because maps can differ and have a significant impact on premiums.
