Sainsbury’s finance have warned homeowners that they’re putting their home at risk if they do not have adequate insurance.
Research carried out by the supermarket reveals that 10 per cent of respondants do not have contents cover for their home insurance. This would leave millions to face the cost of anything lost, stolen or damage in their homes not by their fault.
Even more worrying is that 5 per cent of people didn’t have any insurance to protect the actual building of their home. This makes them liable for the costs of fixing damage caused by floods or storms.
Home insurance manager Neil Laird noted that bad weather was causing homeowners problems.
"Bad weather is increasingly the culprit when it comes to damage to homes and really highlights the importance of having adequate cover in place," he said.
This warning comes on the heels of an earlier warning by insurers that homeowners should expect a sharp increase in burglaries as the clocks go forward.
