People living in Northampton wear an average of £469 worth of jewellery – making it the most “bling” town in Britain, according to a new survey by Halifax Home Insurance.
Glaswegians came second in the survey wearing £468 worth of jewellery and people in Wrexham were third averaging £460.
“It think it’s very good news,” said a Northampton jeweller. “It does make me smile but I don’t think it’s an affluent thing, rather it’s a style thing and people in Northampton have got plenty of style, especially our customers.”
The survey found that 34 million Brits wear jewellery everyday worth £8.6 billion. It was also discovered that British households contain jewellery worth around £52 billion, averaging £1,986 per household (£2,919 in Northampton). Over a quarter of people have had their jewellery valued but had neglected to inform their insurers.
“We would advise anyone wearing particularly valuable items outside the home on a daily basis to make sure that they are fully insured for loss, damage or theft when outside their property,” said Martyn Foulds of Halifax.
