Home Insurance - One in five homes without cover - 01/04/2008

New research has shown that one in five households in Britain go without any home insurance cover.

The poll conducted by Nationwide showed that, despite floods causing a record amount of property damage last year, millions of Britons still go without home insurance.

Not only do many people ignore buildings cover but they also ignore contents cover. 14 per cent of people asked admitted to having no contents insurance, this is despite the fact that the majority of households have contents valuinging between £10,000 and £20,000.

Nationwide's insurance director, Robin Bailey, said: "It is surprising that so many people are prepared to take such a gamble on their homes and personal belongings when you consider how much time and money we all invest in our homes.” "You never know what is around the corner and for that reason it is vital that people are prepared by having adequate insurance."
