Tenants and landlords advised to take out adequate home insurance - 07/05/2008
|
Direct line is advising both tenants and landlords to take out adequate home insurance to protect their property and its contents.
Historically home owners have been better are ensuring that they are fully covered with building and contents insurance. Tenants and landlords on the other hand, can sometimes become confused over who is paying for what. Some tenants assume that the landlord’s building cover will insure their possessions as well, which is not the case.
In addition adequate security measures should be put in place to reduce the risk of burglaries. Security features can also lower insurance premiums making it cheaper to properly insure where you live, regardless of if you are the homeowner or a tenant.
Unfortunately if your property is located in an area with higher rates of burglaries your premiums for contents insurances are still likely to be higher. Although having the right insurance, will protect you if things do go wrong.
