Home Insurance - DIY and home insurance - 02/05/2008

With summer round the corner many of us are rushing through the last bits of DIY we need to do so we can kick back and relax, but are these improvements covered in your home insurance policy.

Many homeowners are at risk of making there home insurance policy none and void by the changes they are making to there home through DIY.

Home improvement can vary but simply changing your locks could mean your claim is not covered. When you take out insurance most providers will ask you what locks you have protecting your home, if these change at any time it is vital you contact your provider and notify them of the changes.

If your home insurance provider is unaware of changes they will likely refuse any claim relating to these locks, this could be something as small as replacing the door or as huge as burglary.

Ensure you amend your policy accordingly with any home improvements, if in doubt check with your provider.
