A report, conducted by Swiss insurance company, Zurich has found that home owners are not doing enough to protect themselves or their homes in the case of burglary.
A total of 1,000 respondents were interviewed in regards to their homes and its security. With ten per cent admitting, that they had broken into their own house and 32 per cent said they felt, they could easily break into the homes.
Around 66 per cent of the respondents who broke into their homes, were able to do so in less than 15 minutes, while 28 per cent were able to break in, in less than five minutes. Naturally it is assumed that if a home owner can break into their home, it is likewise easy for a burglar to enter the house.
Bob Turney, a probation officer, said: “Most burglaries are opportunistic, meaning that most of the time simply locking doors and windows can be enough to deter criminals.”
