Over the period of the May bank holiday, home owners have been urged to curb their enthusiasm with regard to home improvements, which may cause their home insurance policies to be invalid.
According to the price comparison website, confused.com Bank holidays are seen as the best time to complete some home improvements, around the house; despite the fact that half of the jobs completed in the home carry a risk if invalidating their home insurance policy.
However, Debra Williams, the website’s managing director, spoke on the risk of invalidating any home insurance claim, she said: “By following certain simple guidelines the chance of this occurring can be significantly reduced.”
Insurance provider should be infirmed even for, minor jobs such as changing a locks. Also making sure that windows are not left open overnight, when allowing paint to dry.
Williams also said: “Just as important is that workmen are not given keys with which to access your home, since despite the convenience that this seems to offer it could invalidate your home insurance cover in the event of a theft.”
She also added: “It is also prudent to tidy up work tools once the working day is done, since these make it easier for thieves to break in.”
