We all love to try our hand at new recipes and get adventurous in the kitchen, but this new craze has seen an increase in accidents resulting in more home insurance claims.
Research carried out by Esure shows 14% of those questioned has experienced an accident or damaged their kitchen in some way, while trying out new recipes.
Seventy-three per cent of respondents had little faith in their ability as a chef; however 75% were keen to attempt a complex technique.
That is quite an increase in home accidents but how much is this costing the insurers. Esure estimates that £5 billion of household damage has been caused as a result.
The main causes of accidents in the kitchen include chopping, deep fat frying, skewering and our new favourite toy the blow torch.
With this increase in home accidents it is vital to ensure you have the relevant home and contents insurance.
