Those that work from home are being urged to ensure they have adequate insurance cover by a leading insurance company.
Lloyds TSB insurance have voiced their concerns in the wake of figures published showing that there are an increasing number of people prepared to work from home.
The Office for National Statistics have shown that over three million or 11% of the UK’s workforce ply their trade from the comfort of their home surroundings. Many of these workers are self employed.
Phil Loney, Managing Director of Lloyds TSB Insurance said: “Home-based businesses are growing at a rapid rate, so it is increasingly important that small business owners have a clear understanding of what they should be covered for and the type of insurance that they need’’
He advised: ‘‘If workers are unsure of their policy, they should check with their insurance company. A regular home insurance policy may not cover for various work materials and computers, one of the major benefits of working from home is saving time in your day that would be normally spent travelling to work, so employers should take advantage and use the extra time in their day to ensure they have adequate cover.’’
