Home Insurance and flood protection - 15/06/2008

At this present time the home insurance industry is demanding that the Government should increase the amount of money spent on flood defence, in the most flood effected areas in the UK, whilst the industry itself is facing up to almost a million pounds worth of new flooding and Home insurance claims.
Anyone with an existing home insurance policy who has also been effected by flooding should have flood damage as part of their basic cover. The truth is that majority of UK home insurance policies have this cover available, however it is imperative that you study the small print to make sure.
Unfortunately for those individuals that have recently been hit by floods, then decide to suddenly arrange some form of home insurance cover, will be disappointed as many of the top home insurance companies are considering the removal of flood cover from their policies, unless the Government decide to increase their flood defence funds.
Also according to insurance wide.com those living in areas deemed as a flood risk area, or whose home has been hit by a flood, are likely to be declined by their insurer, trying to renew an expired policy.
