Home Insurance - Tesco's 'finest' home insurance - 03/07/2008

A new home insurance policy from Tesco now offers customers increased limits on cover and a bespoke concierge service. Buildings cover is now unlimited (up from £1 million), contents cover when people are away has gone from £5,000 to £10,000 and over Christmas, customers will receive 20 per cent extra insurance at no further charge.

Garden furniture and bicycle cover has gone from £1,000 to £1,500 and landscaping, plants and trees, previously uncovered, now can be insured for up to £2,500. The concierge service provides services from travel booking to shopping.

A home emergency and ID fraud assistance service is also available. New customers also receive a £60 voucher for shopping or fuel at Tesco.

Tesco is also giving holders of its Standard Home Insurance another £10,000 of cover at no extra cost. Jim Bruce, head of home insurance, said customers had required "that little bit extra".

Price comparison website gocompare.com recently found that many homeowners felt pressured into buying home insurance from their mortgage lender. The site said people could save up to £110 a year by shopping around instead.
