Home Insurance - Holiday makers warned to secure their homes when they leave - 15/08/2008

A warning has been given to people jetting off on their summer holidays mean that they are giving thieves a passport to their homes. This has led to home insurance claims rising over the summer holiday period.

According to a YouGov survey of 2000 adults around 7 percent of those questioned make no attempt to secure their home when they leave, the survey also discovered that only 10 percent of holiday makers arrange some sort of house sitter whilst they are away.

Some holiday makers who come back to find the worst has happened may not even be covered, some policies don’t protect you if you have a burglar alarm but forget to switch it on when you leave. Like with all things it is extremely important to read the small print on your home insurance policy so you won’t be in for a shock if the worst was to happen.
