A wish list of celebrity tenants was disclosed by Halifax and found that Leona Lewis was the top of the list – beating the US President, Barack Obama.
The high street bank and insurance provider, also Halifax has issued guidance for landlords regarding what home insurance policies they should have, to ensure they are covered against disasters. They were advised to should make sure they have the correct type of home insurance cover if they own buy-to-let property.
The bank also conducted a survey, involving 1,000 British landlords to find out what kind of a person they look for in a tenant. Women in the medical profession were found to be the preferred tenants, with lorry drivers and taxi drivers the least favourite.
Moreover Halifax formulated a list of landlords' most-wanted and most-unwanted potential celebrity tenants. Amy Winehouse would not be encouraged to stay in rented accommodation, while X Factor winner Leona Lewis would be most wanted - even ahead of the US president Barack Obama.
Martyn Foulds, the senior claims manager for Halifax Landlord – a special home insurance policy made for for small, private buy-to-let landlords – said: “The research shows how particular landlords are about the types of people they rent to, and highlights how much they care about their property.
We'd recommend landlords check the credentials of tenants prior to letting to them by asking for references, and it's also important to ensure they have the right type of buildings and contents insurance in place to protect their buy-to-let property.”
