Home insurance customers are forever being urged to go green, but when Craig and Susan Read, 40, returned to their idyllic get away, they came across too much green - as their holiday property had been turned into a cannabis factory.
The couple rented out their new home for six months, with plans to return back in July. However, when they came back they quickly realised their dream property had been turned into a drug nightmare.
Mr Read, 46 had to force open the door after the tenants had changed the locks and was greeted by the unwelcoming stench of cannabis.
Their dream home had turned into every drug carrier’s vision, as the home had been installed with ventilation tunnels, holes had been cut through floors and ceilings, room were bare and the windows had been blacked out.
The predicted damage to the property is thought to be around £50,000 and Mrs, Read is desperately talking to her home insurance firm to see what will be covered in the mess.
Mrs. Read said: “When we broke in we found the house badly damaged and there were plant pots everywhere. They had broken the plants off and fled with them – I think I saw them leave as we arrived.
"The smell was appalling and I've had all the windows open ever since. It was a real shock and I have been on to the insurance company. The police did find bin liners full of plants nearby, so I think they must have thrown them away as they drove off.”
