The cost of replacing the content, in an average British home is now estimated at about £44,500.
This revelation was made following an analysis of Loss Adjuster’s data by Sainsbury’s Home Insurance.
Of all the rooms in a home it was found that the living room, usually has the most expensive items, representing 27 per cent of the overall value of the contents in the home.
After the living room, comes the master bedroom, where the cost of replacing clothes and shoes as well as furniture could be up to £5,900.
Closely following is the kitchen with its white appliances and kitchenware estimated to cost more than £5,000.
In view of these findings homeowners have been advised to make sure that they take out additional contents cover on their home insurance policy, and one that additionaly provides accidental damage protection.
Neil Laird the Manager of Sainsbury's Home Insurance, said: "Quality contents cover doesn’t have to be expensive and significant savings can be made if householders shop around, they can take advantage of deals."
