Research has revealed that 2/5th of households in areas prone to storms believe that their neighbourhood is not prepared.
The Queensland state emergency service and a home insurance provider are asking the residents of South east Queensland to be prepared for such an event in the near future.
They could do this in a number of ways including home insurance cover. A spokesperson for the home insurance company said that neighbours should work to take measures in order to prevent flooding.
This would mean making their neighbourhood storm ready. They should do this while there is time and it is early in the season.
There is sign of a silver lining to this cloud as well. Nearly 60 percent of the respondents of the survey said that their homes as well as their neighbours were well prepared for storms.
These respondents said that their neighbour’s houses as well as their own, were prepared to counter the effects of a storm and reduce the risk of storm damage.
However many residents still contend to the fact that either they or their neighbours do not do enough to protect their homes or neighbourhood against storm damage.
