Feeling a bit chilly? Not surprising, especially after a home insurance provider said that many customers will be suffering from problems during the cold weather – with frozen pipes.
Therefore, the provider advised householders to keep their homes “safe” in subzero temperatures by getting their chimneys swept before lighting their first fire of the season, learning how to shut off water valves in case they suffer a burst pipe and installing washers on dripping taps to prevent blockages.
Figures from a financial research group suggest that only 13% of Britons are protected by specialist home emergency insurance. Such cover allows customers to call up a professional repairer in order to get rapid assistance, if they suffer an emergency event such as a burst pipe.
Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance, said: “Homeowners shouldn't forget the importance of taking precautions to protect homes against wintry weather. A few quick and easy jobs undertaken now could prevent damage such as pipes bursting.”
