What doesn’t my policy cover?

Most insurance companies have clauses in their policies which means they will not have to pay out for war, terrorism or invasion, but it is a good idea to check your policy thoroughly to make sure you are covered as extensively as possible.
Buildings insurance policies will often exclude; wear and tear to the property, long periods of the house being empty, damage from flooding or subsistence if you live in a high risk area, damage or loss which occurred previously to your policy and deliberate acts by you or another person in your home.
Contents insurance will often exclude damage thanks to neglect (ie. Leaving your home unlocked), costs due to wear and tear, smoke damage and damage caused to your property by pets.
