Insurance - Brokers’ jobs under threat - 05/03/2008

The credit crunch has threatened a lot of broker jobs based in the UK according to analysts. Major international insurance brokers are facing staff cut-backs as the economy hits hard times.

These worries have come after Aon slashes 2,700 jobs as part of a 3 year restructuring programme, this was 1,300 more people than they originally anticipated. Brokers in the insurance industry are struggling to hold on to their jobs and ride out the fall out from the impact of the credit crunch.

Plimsoll Publishing conducted research which showed that 5,000 people employed as brokers in the UK could lose their jobs as a result of the credit crunch. It is expected that the industry will see key companies making considerable job cuts.

A spokesperson for Willis said that the company is reviewing its business models but they currently had no need to restructure or announce any significant job cuts, so it does not seem to be affecting all companies across the industry.
