Cheap travel insurance is rife says new report - 12/05/2008

Travel insurance is getting cheaper as competition in the sector continues to grow, according to new research by financial comparison site, Defaqto.
The cost of European travel cover has been declining for the last five years and with single-trip, week-long policies being available for as cheaply as £6, Defaqto has warned that nobody need travel to the continent uninsured.
“Competition in the travel insurance market is having a very significant effect on the price of travel cover,” said Brian Brown of Defaqto.
“The availability of a huge number of policies, many of them online, has driven many insurers to lower their premiums.”
More British holidaymakers are venturing abroad than ever before. Between 2002 and 2006 overseas trips increased by 17 percent but many travellers are still taking risks by going abroad without insurance cover. A recent study by PHA travel found that 18 percent of Brits had suffered serious problems on an insured trip.
