The Association of British Insurers (ABI), is urging holiday makers to ensure that they provide, their insurance provider with, "as much information as possible" when they are purchasing travel insurance, or making a claim this summer.
ABI spokesman Malcolm Tarling said: “When it comes to claiming on a policy, providing as much information on "the circumstances of the loss, the items being claimed and their value".
He added: "Travel insurance is vulnerable to fraud, so insurers do have a duty to investigate any claims that they suspect may not be genuine."
Although travel insurance has been viewed for many years as a 'holiday essential', many young people are still putting themselves at risk, by going away without insurance policy. According to Gapyear.com, around 25 per cent of young travellers do not have adequate insurance.
