Holidaymakers urged to take out travel insurance - 22/04/2008

Holidaymakers have been reminded by an industry body to arrange travel insurance before their trip.
The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) said travellers frequently forgot or chose not to take out insurance.
Ian Bradley, an AITO spokesman, said: "It does make sense to have travel insurance. It's always recommended but it's amazing how many people don't want to take it out." Mr Bradley also urged holidaymakers to read the small print associated with their chosen policy to understand the extent of coverage.
The importance of ensuring that the cost of valuable items is covered was highlighted especially in light of the Heathrow baggage trouble.
Further advice was offered by Insurancewide.com relating to passengers
affected by lost or delayed baggage.
James Harrison, chief executive of Insurancewide.com, stated that passengers should get a written letter of confirmation from the carrier regarding the length of the delay. Mr Harrison added that effective lost baggage claims commonly included valuations and receipts for valuable items.
