Impulsive holidaymakers advised to take out annual travel insurance - 13/05/2008

People with a tendency to the take a holiday on the spur of the moment rather than book their trip well in advance should consider taking out annual travel insurance cover, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has advised.
The availability of short haul economy flights by companies such as easyJet and Ryanair means that, for many Brits, the decision to take a holiday will be made spontaneously. Forgetting about travel insurance is always a danger for those organising last minute sojourns in the sun and according to ABTA, anyone taking more than two holidays each year would find an annual insurance policy beneficial.
“Flight are so cheap and people do things on the spur of the moment [but they] forget to take out insurance,” said Sean Tipton of ABTA.
“The insurance market is the most competitive it’s ever been so travel insurance is probably the cheapest it’s ever been as well.”
The dangers of travelling abroad without insurance cover are highlighted by recent research which shows that almost one-in-five Brits on an uninsured holiday have suffered problems which were exacerbated by their lack of cover.
