Travellers without insurance could lose home - 15/05/2008

Travellers could lose their house if they do not take out adequate travel insurance, an industry expert has revealed.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) spoke out against travelling without insurance. It highlighted that in some cases an injured individual may be landed with a bill in the hundred thousands that could force the sale of their house in order to pay it.
Sean Tipton, press officer at ABTA, highlighted that this could be avoided for the sake of spending approximately £40 on travel insurance.
"For anybody going abroad for their holiday or a business trip it is extremely foolish to travel uninsured.
"If you’re going on a holiday which involves greater risk, such as an adventure holiday, or going to do something that is potentially risky without insurance then it is incredibly irresponsible," added Mr Tipton.
Figures recently released from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office put the number of over 55s travelling without insurance at 65 per cent.
