Terror attacks can cost passengers more than just time - 05/03/2008

Recent years have seen hundreds of passengers stranded at airports around the country due to terror attacks. These not only delayed flights and disrupted travel plans but also played havoc with many travellers’ insurance policies.
Regardless of how badly delayed people were and whether they reached their destination or not, many insurers do not cover acts of terrorism in their travel insurance policies.
Some people become unwilling to travel when the world is on alert due to terror attacks, airlines are unlikely to offer any compensation to passengers who cancel on these terms. However airlines who cancel their flights do usually offer refunds or alternative flights to their passengers.
Travel insurers are even less likely to pay out on cancellations of flights, it is worth checking the terms and conditions of both your travel insurance and home insurance policy as home insurance policies will often pay out if you are delayed by more than 12 hours.
