Travel insurance is vital even if you don’t plan to leave your resort. Research shows that millions of Britains head abroad for exotic holidays, but many of them do not even leave their resorts. However these Brits should not be lulled into thinking that even though they won’t be white water rafting, nothing will go wrong.
Halifax Travel Insurance conducted a survey of 2,000 British holiday makers and found that on average they spend seven hours in total away from the confines of their resort hotel. A staggering 42% of Brits never speak to any local people leading to three quarters of these holidaymakers not even attempting to speak the local language. It seems Brits abroad just want to lie by the pool and relax. All inclusive breaks now count for one third of all exotic package holidays, while half board holidays account for 20%.
But despite this unwillingness to leave the comfort of a sun-bed, travel insurance is still vital. “Holiday insurance is still a necessity regardless of what you plan to do on your break,” stresses Paul Birkhead, Senior Underwriting Manager at Halifax Travel Insurance. “People intending to stay in the confines of the resort will still need cover as accidents can happen by the pool, your luggage can still go missing, or your holiday can be cut short for unforeseen reasons. Insurance is one thing that is not included in the price of an all-inclusive break. Holidaymakers should not be lulled into a false sense of security thinking they are immune from things going wrong just because they won't be going anywhere other than the hotel.”
