Many people are finding that their travel insurance company is not paying out in the event of mishaps on holiday that they expected to be covered for. To be sure that your insurance is valid, make appoint of reading your policy before you go and checking that you are fully covered.
You would expect travel insurance to cover you for any medical issue which arises while you are on holiday, but many insurers are refusing to pay on the grounds that the customer withheld information about their health before the trip.
Make sure that your insurer is aware of any health problems to be safe in the knowledge that should you need medical attention you will receive it.
Some people have assumed that their insurance would cover flights home in the event that a close relative becomes seriously ill during their holiday. This is not usually the case unless you request this type of cover specifically.
While we are on holiday we all like to indulge a little and may have a few glasses of wine. Insurance companies are clamping down on this and will often refuse to pay out when incidents have happened following the consumption of even one unit of alcohol.
If you are planning on taking part in any kind of adventure sports abroad, then your basic policy is unlikely to include cover. Make sure that you are covered for all activities in which you will be taking part.
Personal possessions are items that many find are not covered as they have not taken due care and attention of their items. Most policies require that you lock valuables in hotel safes and you are highly unlikely to be covered in situations where items have been left unattended in places such as the beach.
Travel to trouble hot spots against the advice of the home office is likely to render your insurance invalid. Check that you are covered for your destination before setting off.
