Holiday makers, who go on Do-It-Yourself holidays, are being advised that it is a false economy’ and to take out adequate travel insurance, that will cover them if anything goes array.
The Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito) has stated that people are often under the misconception that booking flights, accommodation and transfers separately can be more cost-effective than package deals.
However, Aito pointed out that holidaymakers who book DIY trips may not be covered if something goes wrong, or if a plane is cancelled.
A spokesperson for Aito said: "If you were with a tour operator then that's all taken care of, the tour operator is obligated to look after you. You've booked the holiday with them and not with the three or four providers."
People, who are planning a DIY break this summer, should ensure they take out adequate travel insurance beforehand and consider a policy, which will protects against airline insolvency.
