A study by M&S Money has recently revealed that many British holiday makers are taking travel insurance risks. Britons are shunning package deals and creating their own travel plans online instead.
78% of British holiday makers are using the internet to research and book holidays and 50% of Britons are choosing to pick their own services rather than going for a package deal. These changes are having an effect on the industry and it is now expected that the number of package deals on the market will decline. According to the study the most common reason for people to travel is to visit relatives and friends, whereas previously those who travelled had cited relaxation and exploration.
Because of these new trends travellers are losing out when things don’t go to plan. Booking with a holiday agent means that if a flight is delayed the customer will automatically get a seat on the next available plane. However, those who choose to create their own packages online can find that their insurance is inadequate and have to pay out additional costs. It was reported in a different study earlier this year that many British Holiday makers are also failing to take out health cover for when they go abroad.
