Travel Insurance - Totally insured new addition - 30/05/2008

The travel insurance provider totally insured group (TIG) has enhanced their policy to provide cover for terrorism and security, the move by the insurer is the first of its kind in the industry and could see more providers reviewing their policies.

Ron Moonesinghe, Managing Director of TIG who was a finalist in this year’s Money Marketing Financial Services Awards, said “The product was developed after a friend of mine Lawrence Sale was going on holiday with his family to Spain and got caught up in the massive security delays at Heathrow in August 2006. Hundreds of flights were cancelled over a number of days.

When he telephoned his insurance company from the airport, he was told that security/terrorist incidents were excluded. Had he and his family been covered, along with the thousands who spent days sleeping in the departure lounges, they could have been reimbursed for the additional expenses incurred such as hotel, meals, even a new ticket!”

The policy will offer cover to travellers for additional travel, re-ticketing, excess car parking plus much more. With the additional cover starting from £5.00 it is well worth considering.
