Millions of UK holiday goers have been said to prefer travelling by ferry, according to recent statistic. Seventeen million holidaymakers had passed through the Port of Dover, by ferry during 2007 and a 1.1 per cent increase in passengers has been seen in January 2008.
The Port of Dover’s Public Relations Manager, Mike Southey, stated that he finds that there are counteractions from travellers, in relation to the “cheap flights” gimmicks, which have cost travellers additional time and added inconvenience to their holiday.
He said: “We think [ferry travel] is regaining popularity after a period of a few years when there seemed to be a small shift towards airline journeys. It's very much a smoother and easier passage through a seaport than an airport.”
Mr Southey also added that the lengthy security lines also influenced people’s choices, when deciding to travel by ferry.
The AA has also reminded UK travellers who travel by car, to make sure that they have adequate travel insurance cover. The travel insurance provider stated this after, reports indicated that holidaymakers, travelling by cars are under the assumption that their journey will always be covered if they get into an accident or are a victim of theft.
