The recent collapse of XL has brought to light the need to have travel insurance. The collapse saw over 21 of XL planes grounded with 85,000 holiday makers stranded all over the world. Those without the adequate travel insurance cover found themselves facing a long and potentially costly journey home.
Those who were on a package deal are protected by the ATOL (Air Travel Organisers Licensing) whilst those who booked via credit and debit cards also have a chance of getting their money back.
It is those who have bypassed the travel agents all together and booked their flights independently that will have the most trouble getting back home. Without the adequate travel insurance cover travellers could face paying double of what they originally paid to get home.
With a lot more travel operators predicated to go bust in the coming weeks it is more important than ever to take out travel insurance and to double check that it will cover you if the worst was to happen.
