Travel Insurance - Mistakes lead to young traveller’s cards being cancelled - 02/10/2008

When travelling abroad one is more worried about getting their items stolen, getting the correct travel insurance or missing the plane to their dream island. However, more problems in the travel industry have arisen to concern the average backpacker. According to travel experts a large number of credit cards belonging to young travellers are accidentally being cancelled. This is a problem as it could affect the cover on the travel insurance policy.

Tom Griffiths who specialises in gap years for travellers claimed that backpackers were having their cards cancelled: “This is because the computer sees a card that hasn’t been used much in the UK suddenly being nailed in Ecuador or Fiji. It just looks like fraud so the card’s being stopped.”

This problem therefore lies with bank computers failing to recognise they were travelling abroad. However, Griffiths does have a solution to the problem and suggests that getting a pre-paid card before leaving the UK is the best idea.
