Travelers who are looking to get away on a holiday are being advised to make sure that they aware of a number of areas where travel insurance issues can arise.
A travel industry expert has warned holiday goers that keeping an eye on the small print of travel insurance policies can help them make sure that they do not invalidate their cover.
It was noted that individuals should be aware that if they require a visa to enter a country and do not arrange this prior to travel, their insurance could be compromised.
Furthermore, making sure that a passport has sufficient time left before its expiration is integral to travelling overseas, with most countries only requiring that the passport be valid for the duration of the stay. However, a minimum of six months is required for travel to Turkey, Ecuador – including the Galapagos Islands – Indonesia and to Singapore.
Meanwhile, Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, recently urged travellers to ensure that they cover two main areas when taking out a travel insurance policy. These are medical treatment cover and loss or damage to baggage.
