Insurers are advising holidaymakers to take out travel insurance before travelling abroad after figures revealed that one in ten Brits need medical care as a result of sporting accidents abroad.
According to new statistics from insurance provider, esure, more Brits are taking interest to adventure sports such as skiing, abroad with 88 per cent having had already taken part in a sporting adventure on holiday.
However, only 73 per cent of those studied stated that they would check their travel insurance cover before taking part in the sport.
Yet 13 per cent of those polled stated that they would happily take part in a risky sport or activity knowing they were not covered under their insurance.
Esure is now urging holidaymakers to ensure they take out adequate travel insurance for their holiday if they want to avoid turning their "paradise trip, into a nightmare."
Mike Pickard, head of travel insurance at esure said: "Taking the plunge into raging white-water instead of the hotel swimming pool considerably increases the risk of getting injured."
He warned: "Have an accident without insurance and the medical bills could turn a paradise trip into a nightmare if you're not properly covered."
