The Association of British Insurers has stated that consumers should be provided with advice that is transparent and clear to understand. According to the organisation, this practice will help holidaymakers choose their travel insurance policy more easily.
The group’s spokesperson Malcom Tarling, said anyone selling a product "should make sure they are complying with the relevant domestic and EU legislation."
The statement comes after a consumer group found that some airlines are automatically selecting holiday insurance options for unwitting customers.
He furthered: "It may be that taking out that policy with that provider is a good thing to do but people should be aware of the options so they can make the right judgement."
He commented that travel insurance is a necessity and vital if holidaymakers want their trip to run smoothly. "Even for short trips the number one fear is getting ill or injured overseas" and low cost insurance can be had “that is extremely cheap for the cover it provides,” he added.
