For those who like to live life in a bubble, they may do well paying attention to the current travel insurance warning.
As new adventure sports take the travelling world by storm, a travel insurance firm has advised thrill seekers to check their travel cover policy before they take another step onto the wild vacation path.
Insurers have revealed that new trends, such as zorbing - where an individual rolls down a hill inside a giant inflatable ball - are becoming hugely popular, with activity and experience based get-always encountering a boom.
However, insurers have advised such adventurous Brits to check their travel insurance before setting off, as not all travel policies cover extreme sports.
As a result, several travel firms have had to rewrite their travel cover to ensure that people are protected, but not all insurers will do the same.
The warning comes after it was revealed that holidaymakers could be paying 500% over the odds for their travel insurance through an agent.
Extreme hols are all the rage
Commenting on this finding, Steve Williams, the head of travel insurance at a price comparison site said: "While holiday insurance is a must-have, it makes little sense to pay through the nose for it, especially when shopping around for a better deal is likely to save consumers money."
He added that travellers should do their research before committing to a policy: "Price comparison sites enable consumers to trawl the market for the most suitable travel insurance policies on offer."
John Dacey, lifestyle claims manager from an insurance company re-affirmed this and stated that insurance is vital: "Whatever activities you're planning on your holiday, make sure you tell your insurer. Many will be included on a standard policy, but it's always worth checking."
When it comes to purchasing travel insurance, Mr Dacey said: "Going on holiday is about having fun and experiencing new things. We want people to enjoy themselves doing this but at the same time take sensible precautions in case of an accident. Buying travel insurance should be as essential as checking they've tied the bungee rope to your foot before you jump."
Be covered or lose out
The insurance firm also noted that holidaymakers could potentially be putting themselves at risk if they do not take out any insurance, or if they purchase the wrong level of travel cover, before they go away.
It was discovered that the average cost of a medical insurance claim is £744, so it pays for a person to double check that a travel insurance policy protects accidents on a holiday.
Dacey commented: "Swimming with dolphins is so last year - it's now all about bathing with elephants. And who wants to go canoeing when power boating is an option?"
The most common thrill seeking activities were zorbing, octopush - which is under water hockey, wind tunnel flying and tree canopy walking-inspired by the popular television programme I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!
In addition, a special clause has also been written into many insurance policies, to include a walk on Sydney Harbour Bridge, due to its popularity.
