How much travel cover do I need?

Before buying your travel insurance you need to decide what level of cover you want. The type of trip you are embarking upon will determine which level is best for you and works out the cheapest.
Broadly speaking the two main types of cover available are Annual Multi-Trip cover and Single Trip cover, if you make less than two trips abroad per year then Single Trip cover is all you need to insure yourself. If you are planning on making multiple trips abroad then Annual Multi-Trip cover will suit your needs more efficiently.
There are, however, exceptions to this, as it is dependent of the countries you visit as to the price of your premium. Cover to the United States will work out more expensive as Single Trip cover if you are intending to visit more than once in the year. This is due to possible expensive health care costs.
Many insurers offer different specific policies that can save you money, such as; Family Insurance cover, which will work out cheaper than individually insuring each member of your family to travel. A Europe Only insurance policy is also available, for which you are only covered to travel in Europe, although this can usually be extended if necessary.

What is a European Health Insurance Card?

European Union citizens are entitled to free or discounted medical care when visiting another country in the European Union. You can only claim this by applying for a European Health Insurance (EHI) card before travelling, this can cut the cost of your claims and will usually be required by your insurer and will keep your premium costs down.

What does your trip involve?

Where you are going and what you are doing on your trip will affect the cost of your policy. Certain countries are viewed as higher risk by insurers, especially those with high crime rates, political turmoil or an unfriendly government. Travelling to a friendly and safe country will keep your travel insurance costs low.
Certain dangerous activities will increase the cost of your policy, such as sporting holidays or skiing. Insurers will offer special deals for these kind of holidays though so it is important to make sure you get the right policy for the holiday you are taking.

Use Only Insurance.

The insurance market is highly competitive, to save money you can use Only Insurance free to search hundreds of insurers for the policy and price that suits you.
