Travel Insurance -
Travel insurance is as important as the suitcases
|
Being equipped for a holiday involves a lot of things but despite having the plane tickets, the online checking in passes, the suitcases, the sun tan lotion and the clothes-too many holidaymakers are ignoring the necessity of travel insurance and not even taking advantage of potential saviours like the EHIC when travelling to Europe.
The list of incidents that occur on holiday are endless and countless numbers of holidaymakers are left smarting after things go wrong, having no travel insurance to fall back on. Travel Insurance is vital. What is more it takes as much good research as when deciding where to go and what hotel to stay in. Travel Insurance is a specialised market and the cover you take out must meet your needs.
If an accident occurs on holiday or if a medical condition flares up then to cater for this eventuality, it is vital that the Medical cover on your travel insurance is sorted out beforehand. This provides for treatment at the destination and the cost of being flown home by air ambulance should this be necessary. This second feature is extremely costly if you have to meet the cost from out of your own pocket. It is also critical to understand what the medical insurance covers. It commonly excludes hazardous pursuits, like skiing and parachute jumping. Read the small print and be certain that the cover you buy meets your requirements in these respects.
A lot of research indicates that people forego Travel Insurance because they are not too sure where to get it. Firstly, it does not have to be bought from the travel agent from whom you purchase the holiday. There are a host of companies active in the travel insurance market and there are likely to be better deals available.
When travelling in Europe, Britons should always consider the EHIC which is a European Health Insurance Card. The EHIC and holiday insurance are complementary and you are advised to have both by the UK's department of health. The card however is NOT an excuse to leave out travel insurance.
Caution must always be exercised because simply taking out a policy may not cover certain eventualities. That is why you must always read the fine print and scour the details to ensure everything you want to be covered is covered. There may be an instance where you are under the misapprehension that a certain cover is included in the policy when in fact it is specifically excluded.
