Years of aggregated evidence have highlighted the admirable road etiquette displayed by van driver and their consideration for other road users. However it still appears that the questionable driving skills of a few not only continues to taint the credibility of the majority but also pushes up the cost of their van insurance premiums. Perhaps this is what has prompted the suggestions and whisperings of new government plans to introduce a separate qualification for drivers who use a van for a living.
Rather than using one test to qualify all drivers the ability to drive cars and small vans alike, a new testing scheme will separate the categories. How this will be implemented is yet to be announced, but the fact that the whisperings have turned into an announced plan of implementation shows that the law is taking seriously the number of accidents that are occurring on the road due to renegade van drivers.
It makes sense considering an individual after passing their driving test in a small city car such as a Micra or Corsa is suddenly endowed with the passport to drive a vehicle that is not only much larger but requires additional skill and expertise when it comes to its handling.
