A leading van insurance firm has said that due to the violent downpours within the UK, motorists must be careful when driving their vehicles, as flood and storm warnings continue to be issued.
The insurance provider said that damaged vehicles can cost a considerable amount for repairs whereas the engines might require months to return to normal.
The firm added that during the 2007 floods, approximately £35m was claimed by customers whose vans suffered from water damages.
However, the firm has issued a list of top tips to assist motorists in protecting their vehicles during the bad weather conditions. These tips include – avoiding puddles even if they seem shallow, no DIY solutions if the vehicles get stuck and if the vehicle gets stalled, customers should not attempt to restart it.
A spokesperson who is head of risk and underwriting at the group, said that a number of motorists actually drive their vehicles into trouble by misjudging the depth and trying to cross water. In such a case, it is recommended to turn off the vehicle and wait for help.
