Speed humps were originally introduced to slow down traffic and cut down the chance of accidents occurring. It is now 17 years since speed bumps first appeared on Britain’s roads and is has been revealed that 87% of UK drivers would rather see speed bumps removed altogether.
This is because speed bumps often damage vehicles such as car and van exhausts, suspension and radiators. 30% of vehicles that fail MOTs each year due to suspension damage. Speed bumps are also uncomfortable to drive over, especially for drivers or passengers with back or neck damage.
There are now devices available that vans can install on their vans to stop dipping, sinking and bottoming out when hitting speed bumps. The installation of these devices can help keep van insurance prices down as damage to the vehicle is less likely than without it.
It seems road humps are here to stay regardless of how hated they are by members of the public.
