Those who buy second hand vans need to ensure that their purchase is roadworthy, it has been reported. According to the Borehamwood and Elstree Times, officials from Hertfordshire Trading Standards went undercover, and brought several vehicles, finding five of them to be dangerous.
Therefore, whilst a used vehicle such as a van, may seem like a good deal at the time of purchase, the chances are that the driver could be paying more in van insurance bills and repairs in the long run.
County councillor Richard Smith claimed that young drivers are particularly prone to be deceived in such a manner, as a cheap price may seem so appealing. Smith added: “Consumers should buy from legitimate businesses that inspect the vehicles before putting them on sale."
Smith continued by stating that even if one driver checked their car or van before buying it, then it would have been worth it, as it would mean one less accident.
Last month, Sainsbury’s Finance Statistics found that the number of people planning to buy a second hand van or car in the six months from March 2008 feel by 8%.
