UK van drivers are running a mammoth bill hitting £300 million annually due to a lack of conducting basic vehicle maintenance, according to a leading research company.
Comma has revealed that an inherent failure by drivers to check oil and water levels can mean annual bills of £12,000.
The findings revealed that those aged between 17 and 24 were most culpable, most of who questioned admitting that they were unaware of what their oil light signifies. This simple lack of supervision can significantly increase van insurance.
Mike Bewsley a spokesperson for Comma said: "When the average cost of replacing an engine is £3,462, but can easily reach over £12,000 for bigger cars or vans, too many motorists are walking a tightrope. It only takes 60 seconds."
"Drivers should check their oil once a month and before they embark on long journeys," he added.
