Van drivers could reduce the number of van insurance claims made by eating a healthy diet, according to new research.
The research, conducted by Mett Marie Linding, a Danish lifestyle consultant suggested that drivers who eat sensibly are less likely to be involved in a road accident and therefore, less likely to make a claim on their insurance.
The research found that healthy eating can improve a driver's response times and as a result will react faster by reducing their stopping distances.
According to its figures, the participants who ate healthy foods regularly were faster reaction rates-average of 16 per cent more, than other drivers.
As a result, Volvo Trucks in Holland has launched a new healthcare module as part of its driver training.
Spokesperson for Volvo Trucks, Charles Engelaar said: "Since there is a strong link between food and traffic safety, we felt that it was important to put health firmly on the agenda."
He added: "Many drivers want to be healthier, but simply don't know how to set about making the necessary change."
The firm is now encouraging its employees to live healthier lifestyles by offering them tips on what makes a healthy diet, how to exercise whilst driving and the best seating positions.
