Electronic van insurance certificates will be issued to drivers from April 2010, it has been revealed.

The transport minister announced the modification at the Association of British Insurers' motor meeting.

A leading van insurance provider that had earlier lobbied for electronic certificates welcomed the change.

The van group also revealed that inconveniences with the present paper certificate system had revived during the nationwide postal strikes, with customers who renewed their van insurance not receiving their documents in post.
